Technical Product Owner
This is a 9 month fixed term contract.
About the role
We’re looking for a Technical Product Owner to lead the vision, roadmap and delivery of key strategic technology initiatives. Acting as the bridge between business stakeholders and engineering teams, you’ll ensure our applications are designed, built and released to deliver real value and support our long‑term goals.
You’ll own the product backlog, guide development teams, champion quality across the software lifecycle and drive Agile ways of working. This is a hands‑on, high‑impact role where you’ll shape how we deliver digital products across the organisation.
What you’ll do
Own the product vision and backlog, defining priorities, writing user stories and ensuring features align with business and technical needs.
Translate business requirements into clear, actionable tasks for engineering teams.
Lead delivery across development, testing and release, ensuring products meet performance, security and compliance standards.
Drive Agile practices, supporting sprint planning, backlog refinement and continuous improvement.
Manage dependencies, risks and cross‑team coordination to keep delivery on track.
Stay close to system design, integrations and emerging technologies to support informed decision‑making.
Work collaboratively across change and technology teams to define release priorities, timelines and deliverables.
Ensure products meet cyber, regulatory and group standards (including ITCRM, ISO 9001, ISO 27001 and data protection).
Partner with support teams to identify and resolve technical or performance issues.
What we’re looking for
You’ll bring strong experience delivering digital or application‑focused projects, with the confidence to lead teams and manage complex technical work. A background in insurance systems is essential, along with the ability to communicate clearly across both technical and non‑technical audiences.
You’ll have:
A relevant qualification in software engineering or development practices.
Substantial experience delivering digital or application‑based projects.
A proven track record managing complex projects and teams.
Strong insurance industry knowledge, particularly around insurance applications and systems.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex technical concepts.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban).
Familiarity with cloud technologies such as Mendix, AWS or Azure (advantageous).
Leadership skills that inspire and motivate teams.
The ability to work remotely and travel when needed to collaborate with offshore teams and external partners.
